At UTHSCSA, we offer advanced comprehensive care for the full spectrum of complex cerebro-vascular disorders by integrating multiple disciplines which include microneurosurgery, endovascular neurosurgery, stroke neurology, emergency medicine and rehabilitation. The UTHSCSA endovascular Neurosurgery / Interventional Neuroradiology Program mission is to provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services both to adult and children with cerebro-vascular diseases.

Endovascular Neurosurgery/Interventional Neuroradiology is a minimally invasive approach for the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases many of which in the past would have required surgery or even being considered untreatable.

This approach is made possible by recent developments in both imaging technology and endovascular devices. The neurointerventionalist uses real time digital images to guide instruments through the blood vessels to treat conditions such as:

  • Cerebral aneurysms Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) of the brain and spine Steno-occlusive cerebrovascular disease Acute strokes Brain tumors Pediatric vascular lesion
  • Vascular lesions of head and neck.

SERVICES THAT WE OFFER AT UTHSCSA:

At UTHSCSA, we are committed to develop mutually beneficial relationships with our referring physicians and are open to discussing how we can help in the management of your patients. The collaboration options include:

  • Transferring patients to our center for endovascular and/or surgical treatment.
  • Transferring patients to our center for endovascular therapy (e.g. embolization of a vascular malformation), after which they can be sent back to your hospital for definitive surgery. Refer patients for Neuroimaging.
  • Consultation with the Neuroendovascular Service is available 24 hours a day. We have a weekly neurovascular conference to discuss the treatment options for the cases referred our Department.
  • Telephone consultations and/or electronic film reviews are also available. We invite you to send cases or question. Please contact our administrative assistant Mary Lee Cravey, 210-567-5623 to expedite the process use our e-mail (fernandezp@uthscsa.edu).
