Neal Dalrymple, MD

Greetings from San Antonio!

Thank you for your interest in our Diagnostic Radiology Residency. We are looking forward to recruiting a talented group of residents in the upcoming Match, and I hope you will consider becoming one of them.

As you know, the American Board of Radiology requires five years of postgraduate training, including a clinical internship. Therefore, if you are currently a medical student, you are welcome to apply for our four-year Radiology residency, in which case you would join us in July

2009 following a transitional or preliminary clinical internship. (For information on our Research Residency Pathway please see http://radiology.uthscsa.edu/grad/Curriculum/HIbrochure.pdf.)

Preliminary Medicine internships are available in San Antonio. Although there is no automatic link between programs, if you match with us in Radiology you have a good chance to match in Medicine as well. Contact George Crawford, M.D., residency program director for the Department of Medicine at (210) 567-4820.

Of course, we also solicit applications from those who are currently in or will have completed an ACGME approved clinical internship or residency by July 2009. The program for such applicants would also consist of four years of straight radiology training.

Please note that we will be participating in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) for the Match. ERAS was developed by the Association of American Medical Colleges to save time and effort while using the internet for the rapid delivery of residency applications, medical school transcripts, Dean's Letters and faculty recommendations. ERAS is designed to consolidate and streamline the process at every stage. Contact your Dean's office for information on ERAS.

ECFMG will have the role of the Dean's Office for international medical graduates. Foreign medical graduates will contact ECFMG, which will transmit the application to the programs designated by the applicant. Only the J-1 visa is supported, and foreign graduates must have secured an ACGME-approved internship before applying to our program. There are no minimum USMLE score requirements, but keep in mind that the applicant pool is highly competitive.

Again, I am happy that you are thinking of joining our team. Please write or call if you have any other questions.
